For regulators, RAPID provides contract compliance information, system wide times accurate to within 1 second and automatically compensating for local clock drifts and communications delays.

Fleet dispatchers get to view their fleet in real time showing how each bus is tracking and where they are relative to other buses on the same route. A real time view of which services has started and which have completed is readily available and dispatchers can see current events and alerts at all times.

The system supports multiple bus companies with each company only able to see their own information.

On the bus the Technisyst position algorithm is combined with door open sensors to deliver precise stop arrival times, dwell times and departure times.

Internal and external audio announcements of stop arrivals is fully automatic and standard in all vehicles. Information also flows to drivers who are advised of how they are tracking to schedule and when they have received priority at an intersection.

Driver security is enhanced with duress alert support able to complement any radio alarm system with real time displays of the bus location and emergency alert messages logged and presented for action.

Real time information is shared with the Train and Tram systems allowing signs at interchanges to show multimodal information in a consistent and user friendly manner. Both larger PID signs and the new LCD base personal Totem display are widely used and display similar information. Naturally all signs can be viewed and approved messages sent to the signs for display.

Communications is initially using GPRS with support for a range of other digital communication systems such as Mobitex, CDMA and 3G850 available.
