Technisyst Helps Salmat Check Letterboxes
SYDNEY, NEW SOUTH WALES 29/11/2006
Technisyst has signed a major deal with Australia’s leading direct customer communication company Salmat to automate its verification system and improve customer feedback using wireless handheld devices.
The deal is the first stage in a technology overhaul designed to provide total end to end auditability of the Salmat system.
Salmat currently uses 18,000 ‘walkers’ across Australia, who deliver advertising catalogues and other forms of direct mail to millions of homes across the country.
This process is then verified by around 1,000 area representatives who check a random selection of letterboxes to make sure they have received the correct catalogues and brochures.
At present this is done using a hardcopy checklist which is sent to the nearest main branch of Salmat and archived in a paper-based filing system.
Under the new system the area representatives will carry a handheld device which feeds data back to Salmat’s existing back office system using GPS via a Technisyst communications gateway.
Not only will this improve the reliability of reporting back to customers, it will also save Salmat countless man hours.
Salmat Divisional Director for Targeted Media, Peter Boyle said the increased efficiency would definitely benefit the company but the real winners would be the customers.
“Under the old paper-based system, it could take up to two weeks for the checklists to come back in,” Mr Boyle said.
“Using our new wireless technology we know the status of deliveries instantly and can answer any customer queries without delay.”
Technisyst CEO Bill Delaney said he was very confident the new technology would be of great benefit to Salmat.
“We started a trial back in June with only 10 devices and have been working with Salmat since then to refine and test the system,” Mr Delaney said.
Peter Boyle from Salmat said there are grand plans in place for the future. “We are currently trialling GPS systems in all our trucks,” Mr Boyle said.
