Technisyst Major Sponsor at Smart Urban Transport Conference
BRISBANE, QUEENSLAND, 13/9/2005
Australian mobile data specialist Technisyst was the principal sponsor of the fourth international Smart Urban Transport (SUT) conference which took place in Brisbane on 13 and 14 September 2005.
The event provided a showcase for the best global practices, with particular emphasis on integrated transport services. South East Queensland served as an ideal base and case study due to its exceptional population growth and particularly forward-thinking transit authority.
Technisyst has been instrumental in helping Brisbane achieve world-leading public transport by installing its Intelligent Transport System (ITS) RAPID across the citys bus network.
RAPID was pioneered in Brisbane and has subsequently been implemented in Auckland, New Zealand and Melbourne, Australia. It provides passengers waiting at bus stops with real time information using GPS and satellite technology as well as giving late running buses priority at traffic lights.
Technisyst is working to expand the possibilities of the system including updates on mobile phones for commuters and vehicle health check capabilities for operators.
Technisyst business development manager David Panter spoke at the conference about the future possibilities of integrated, intelligent transport systems. In his speech Mr Panter envisioned a network where weather updates and football scores would be available at bus stops, commuters would be able to access their email from the bus and driver awareness would be monitored for increased safety.
Other speakers included the chief operating officer of the Bangkok Transit System and senior board members from South Australia Public Transport, Brisbane Council, the Victorian Department of Infrastructure and NSW State Transit Authority, as well as speakers from the UK, Singapore, Hong Kong and the USA.
Technisyst managing director Brian Webb said he was delighted that the 2005 SUT conference had taken place in Brisbane as the city had a lot to be proud of in terms of public transport and future planning. The key word in transport systems around the world is integration and South East Queensland has a head start on most regions, Mr Webb said.
An event of this nature brings global recognition not just for the authority, but for the local technology providers who have implemented pioneering systems.
