Talon SP - Automatic Number Plate Recognition System

Talon SP is the software version of Appian's leading Talon ANPR system. Talon SP benefits from all the power of the Talon system but without the need for dedicated recogniser hardware boards. Talon SP offers true 'plug and play' capability and easy installation on to any PC platform.

Talon SP can be run on any modern PC platform equipped with a frame grabber (including laptops and palmtops), thus offering a huge range of deployment options and operational flexibility.

Talon SP is a turnkey ANPR solution that can be supplied as a standalone software package easily integrated into third party applications. Alternatively Talon SP can be supplied with a range of Talon software applications.

The Talon SP ANPR Recognition Process

In the Talon SP software a comprehensive recognition process is executed.

When a number plate is detected, a trigger is caused which initiates a suite of software recognition algorithms. These algorithms identify the position of the plate in the image, extract the plate image, apply geometric distortion compensation if necessary and segment the plate into individual characters.

Each character is then fed into a software neural network. The network produces an estimate for every character input resulting in a string of characters, which is its best estimate for the number plate. Multiple software based processing units, provide multiple parallel processing ensuring that many images will be analysed for each passing vehicle. This in turn results in the extraordinary accuracy of the Talon system.

The PC's then selects the best result from all results generated from the software processors for each passing vehicle. This is possible due to each character recognised by the neural network having a confidence score.

NEW Point and Shoot from Talon

POINT & SHOOT is the latest enhancement to the Talon SP high performance ANPR system, with the added functionality of an easy set-up system.

POINT & SHOOT Features:

  • Easy deployment with minimal camera set-up required
  • Accurately reads rotated plates, with an automatic de-rotation feature
  • Robust trigger - excellent at reading different sized plates, small or large, near or far
  • Accurately reads both rectangular and square plates
  • Automatically reads both normal and inverse plates

Who uses it?

Talon SP provides a cost effective solution for commercial, police and paramilitary ANPR applications. Talon SP is currently in operation within numerous police forces and is particularly suited to surveillance operations and other covert deployments. Talon SP will run on any modern PC platform and therefore can be tailored to any operational requirement.

PC Platforms for Talon SP:

  • FIXED
The Talon SP fixed site camera solution is designed to monitor specific sites with TALON SP software installed on to a standard industrial PC.
  • MOBILE
Talon SP Mobile is a portable ANPR system capable of integrating virtually all-vehicular information systems employed by Polices Forces. Talon mobile is a special version of the UK police forces Spectrum software, offering touch screen technology, ideal for in-vehicle systems.
  • LAPTOP

Talon SP will run on any laptop meeting the minimum specification
