Scalability
System performance is as much a function of the software design as the power and configuration of the hardware. Technisyst designed the RAPID system so that the core application consists of a number of separate processes communicating through well defined interfaces. Each process can be loaded on its own server or can share a processor. Servers normally are industry standard hardware running the LINUX operating system.
Designed in a modular format the various processes with in RAPID allow Technisyst to set the system up as to automatically detect failed processes and restart these on any of the available servers. The effect is that the core software has extremely high availability levels.
RAPID can be configured from a single standalone PC to a set of clustered servers sharing a SAN with RAID drives. In scaling up in no changes are needed to the software.

For small fleets a single PC is often enough but it is nice to know that over 900 vehicles are currently being tracked on a single system and simulators allow the system to be load tested to track and process predictions for up to 3000 buses on the road at any one time.
