M5 Sunview - Laptop Interface System

Product Overview

Many agencies own laptop computers as their mobile data solution and have found they are not rugged enough, not sunlight visible and are not ergonomically desirable for in-vehicle computing. To remedy this specific situation, Technisyst developed the Sunview Laptop Interface - an excellent way to upgrade existing hardware!

This solution uses the agency's existing laptop as the CPU and incorporates it with the following Technisyst components:

  • 12.1-inch or 8.4-inch dash-mounted, sunlight visible colour touchscreen
  • Rugged, detached, backlit keyboard
  • 12-volt power supply

The Sunview Laptop Interface converts the laptop's analog VGA output signal to a digital signal and uses an available serial port on the laptop to connect to the touchscreen. The simple interface box can be configured for use on almost any available laptop computer. This is a feature only Technisyst provides.

The interface box also allows Fire Trucks and Command Vehicles a cost savings by providing the ability to run two screens off of one CPU - another feature and cost savings only we can provide.

The following sections describe the components in more detail.

Display - 8.4-inch

The display unit thickness is 3.8cm, meeting published space requirements for dash-mounting. This allows mounting on the dashboard out of the passenger air bag deployment zone. This is a unique and extremely important feature of the M5 Sunview Computer.

A Universal Mounting option is available for most popular vehicles such as Ford Falcon, Holden Commodore and a variety of other cars, mini-vans, four-wheel drive vehicles, and trucks. Technisyst is happy to provide further information for your particular vehicle.

Power Supply

The Laptop Interface power supply has been designed specifically for vehicle applications. The switching power supply has been designed to provide constant regulated power at +5V, +12V, and -12V over an input voltage range of 6V to 18V. The Laptop Interface system continues to function even while the starter motor is in operation, eliminating undesired restarts of the computer along with loss of data.

The Keyboard

Our new water resistant keyboard features the heavy-duty construction needed to withstand continuous in-car use. The keyboard is completely separate from the display allowing for easy use by either occupant. Extra large letters on the keys provides for superior day or night visibility as does our unique, "eight levels of illumination" system. A new, integrated glide pad is included.
